Night Splints
Plantar Fasciitis splints are typically called "night" splints because they are worn at night during sleep or during rest after activity. Often the most severe pain and inflammation of plantar fasciitis is experienced in the morning, which could cause the first few steps to be excruciating. The position the feet and ankles are held in as we sleep promotes cramping of the fascia and calf muscles. When feet are pointed under the weight of the blankets the plantar fascia muscle is contracted (shortened). Those first steps in the morning are painful because the muscle which as been contracted all night is suddenly stretched and pulled.

The HealWell® Night Splints are designed to comfortably position the foot in a controlled amount of dorsiflexion to provide a gentle stretch to the plantar fascia and Achilles Tendon. This gentle stretch helps reduce the muscle contracture, inflammation, and associated pain, and helps promote healing of the injured tendons and muscles. It has also been clinically proven to reduce symptoms of plantar fasciitis.

The HealWell® Plantar Fasciitis Night Splints can be used to treat the following conditions:
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendinitis
  • Plantarflexion Contractures
  • Heel Spurs
  • Equinous Conditions
  • Pronation Syndromes
  • Muscle Tightening and Runner's Cramp

How to Treat Plantar Fasciitis

  • Use the HealWell® Night Splints to maintain a gentle, constant stretch across the plantar fascia.
  • Wear proper shoes. Running or sports shoes with excellent support, no or minimal heel, and well cushioned soles. Padded or gel inserts or arch supports may also be used.
  • Use heel cushions. Felt, gel, viscoelastic, or synthetic heel cushions spread and absorb shock as the heel lands easing pressure on the plantar fascia.
Soft Point® Silicone Heel Cushions recommended.
  • Decrease standing and ambulatory activity.
  • Get periods of "relative rest" and ice to reduce inflammation (problem often reoccurs if one rests completely.)
  • Stretch the heel cord and plantar fascia.
  • Perform stretching exercises followed by icing.
  • Massage area of pain, especially in morning after warm bath or shower.
  • Wear "Birkenstock"-type sandals instead of bare feet or slippers.
  • Tape the foot to maintain arch and release tension in the plantar fascia.
  • Lose weight.
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication to reduce pain and inflammation.

Resting Comfort Slipper™

Made of cool, breathable foam material, this plantar fasciitis night splint is lightweight with less bulk than other night splint devices for superior comfort. The inner shell provides lateral side support with an opening at the ankle to prevent irritation on the sensitive ankle bone. An adjustable hinge adjusts the amount of dorsiflexion from 0 to 10º, and a built-in toe wedge gives an additional 5º plane for even greater stretch across the Plantar Fascia. Easy and quick to apply and comfortable enough to sleep in. The non-slip bottom helps prevent accidental slipping on flooring. Resting Slipper is intended for sleeping and should not be walked in.

Spot clean liner with a soft cloth, water, and mild soap. Do not submerge the product in water. Wipe dry and air dry.

1. While sitting, bend knee forward so it is completely over the foot with the foot flat on the floor.

2. Flex foot with toes pointing upward and place in the slipper boot. Ensure heel is in full contact with the back of the slipper boot. Splint should be parallel with the leg and always on the lateral (outer) side.

3. Fasten closure on top of foot. Secure the top calf wrap, ensuring the closure is snug but not too tight.

4. Loop ankle strap through buckle for a secure fit and to maintain proper foot position. The strap location holds the heel in proper position to ensure effective dorsiflexion.

HealWell® Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint

The night splint is made of spring-action, strong plastic with a ventilated calf area for comfort and breathability and helps prevent torquing at critical areas. The open, cut heel design allows the foot to be comfortably and properly positioned; the adjustable bilateral dorsiflexion straps control the amount (degree) of dorsiflexion. Easy push lock buckles and three strategically placed padded straps hold the splint in place. A removable foam wedge provides additional toe extension. The non-slip bottom helps prevent accidental slipping on flooring. (Not intended for ambulation.) Spot clean the shell and straps with a soft cloth and mild soap. Rinse and wipe dry.

The removable liner is treated with Microban®, an antimicrobial agent which, when introduced into the actual molecular structure of fibers, fabrics, and polymers, provides continuous inherent control over the growth of certain odor and stain causing bacteria, yeasts and fungi. The result is a more hygienic, fresher product for improved patient compliance and comfort. Microban® is not intended to prevent infection. Machine wash liner on gentle cycle or hand wash in cold water with a mild soap. Rinse thoroughly. Wrap in towel to remove excess water. Do not wring or twist. Air dry away from heat or tumble dry on cool. Do not bleach. The Microban® Antimicrobial agent will not wash out. Do not bleach. Launder at least once a week or more frequently if needed.

Soft Point® Heel Cushions

Wear the Silicone Heel Cushions in your shoes during the day for long-lasting support. The blue spot in the Heel Cushion has a softer durometer profile at the heel for enhanced comfort. The shape of the cushion and the medial position of the soft, blue spot help relieve pressure and pain on the most sensitive area of the plantar fascia. The silicone absorbs shock, will not lose its shape or harden, and will remain odor-free. Easy to wear in most shoe types and can be moved from shoe to shoe. One pair. Plantar Fasciitis
